KIDLINGTON made it back-to-back victories as they beat Basingstoke by 60 runs at Stratfield Brake.

It seems that the only thing Kidlington skipper Dave Taylor cannot win is the toss and once again his team had to make all the running as their opponents showed little interest in playing for anything other than a draw.

Having been inserted, Kidlington openers Nawaz Ali and debutant Richard Howitt produced a 125-run opening stand to put the home side firmly in the driving seat, even allowing them the luxury of a middle-order collapse.

If Howitt's splendid 73 is a sign of what is to come then Kidlington's batting will be a force to be reckoned with.

Nawaz, who hit 84, has already made more runs in May than he did all of last season.

Chasing 237, Basingstoke were faced with the old ball as David Hegarty's slow left arm claimed two quick wickets.

Mitchell Stokes, who is on Hampshire's books, offered stern resistance with 66.

Using six bowlers in all, it was not until Taylor's third change that Kidlington took the new ball and seamer Josh Lalor bowled Dylan Nurse with a yorker.

After tea, Basingstoke hung on grimly, but Taylor, who bowled his 15 overs in four spells, kept up the pressure.

When Duncan Bradshaw bowled last man Harris, there were eight overs left.
