AN astonishing bowling display by opening bowlers Sam Lachlan and Luke Merry saw Thame hammer Gerrards Cross by eight wickets to register their first win of the campaign.

Lachlan and Merry exploited helpful conditions after skipper Adam Krol won a useful toss, to shoot the home side out for 77.

Gerrards Cross opener Alex Hales was dropped before striking successive boundaries.

But Merry stuck to his task and dismissed Hales for 17 with an excellent inswinging yorker.

He then got rid of Matt Eyles caught behind off a perfect outswinger to the left hander.

A brilliant catch at short leg by Chris Wynd accounted for Alan Duncan to give Lachlan his first wicket.

This triggered a Gerrards Cross collapse as Lachlan and Merry went to work on the young, but talented, Gerrards Cross middle order Lachlan trapped Wright leg before, and then Merry dismissed Johnny Hughes and David Cranfield-Thompson with quick full deliveries.

Lachlan jagged the ball about at good pace on the green pitch to skittle out the lower order.

Fittingly, Merry took a good catch at off Lachlan to end the Cross innings in the 30th over.

Lachlan claimed 6-26 and Merry 4-45 in their superb, sustained two-ponged attack.

Chris Wynd started Thame's reply in bullish fashion, smashing the first delivery for four.

Wynd played aggressively before being adjudged lbw, while Rob Brooks was caught behind from a good ball form Wright.

But skipper Krol and coach Manoj Parmar put the game to bed as Thame reached their target off 23.5 overs, thus sparking celebrations for a well-earned 25 points.
