A VICTORY at the last hole saw Oxford Ladies finish third in the finals of the Mail on Sunday Classic at El Rompido in Spain.
It was a thrilling finish to a close match against Accrington & District, but sealed a 3½-1½ win to kickstart celebrations for a squad which had won nine knockout ties to reach the finale in Andalucia.
The result was an excellent response from the team, whose hopes of winning the title were ended at the first play-off hole of their semi-final with Gosport & Stokes Bay, which had finished 2-2.
Maggie Findlay, the team's captain, said: “It was an amazing trip, one I'll never forget.
"It's an incredible result when you think over 3,000 clubs started out.”
Club captain Jan Glover said: “It was very much a team effort and not just the players – our caddies and supporters made an enormous contribution to our progress throughout the competition.
"I am enormously proud to be captain in such a successful year for the club.”
- A CHEQUE for £12,500 was presented to charity Child Bereavement after the final Five Star Events competition of the year.
Former England rugby player Simon Halliday was the guest of honour at the Tony Buck Celebrity Day, held at Frilford Heath.
Countback was required to separate the top three in the pairs better ball event, which was won by Peter Reeves and John O'Brien.

Two Frilford Heath members were left celebrating after claiming aces on the same hole on the same day.
David Mitchell, 65, who lives in Abingdon, and 56-year-old Simon Bishop, from Faringdon, both found the cup at the 187-yard fourth hole on the Red Course.
They were playing in different groups during the club's Fourway International competition.
The pair will receive a specially-commissioned, commemorative BOSS watch for their achievements.
