EDDIE Pepperell had a steady one-under-par score of 71 in the first round of the Dubai World Championship – the final tournament on this season’s PGA European Tour.
The world No 104, from Abingdon, shot three birdies and two bogeys yesterday to stand in joint 28th place, five shots off the pace.
Ryder Cup players Martin Kaymer and Ian Poulter are in a four-way tie for the lead alongside with up-and coming Englishman Andy Sullivan and Australian Marcus Fraser after six-under-par rounds of rounds of 66.
Rory McIlroy is two shots off the lead, while Justin Rose stands alongside Pepperell.
