Oxford United’s three-match winning run in FA Women’s Super League 2 was brought to an end with a 3-0 defeat away to league leaders Doncaster Rovers Belles.
After sustaining heavy pressure in the opening moments, the U’s fell behind midway through the first half thanks to a Sue Smith penalty after Rosie Lane had handled the ball in the area.
Bethany England doubled the lead after 58 minutes with a diving header.
And it could have been worse if not for a heroic display from goalkeeper Demi Lambourne, first saving another dangerous effort from England and then denying Courtney Sweetman-Kirk at point-blank range.
But she was beaten for a third time shortly before the end when England met Sweetman-Kirk’s pass and struck into the bottom corner.
Oxford complete their programme away to Everton on Sunday, October 18.
