Oxford & District's Dale Hall staged a stunning fightback to pip Banbury Cross's Calvin Carpenter 21-20 in the Oxfordshire indoor singles final at Oxford City & County.

Trailing 18-9, Hall was staring defeat in the face.

Carpenter had several chances to win the match, but Hall dug deep and battled back to clinch victory on the 27th end.

It formed part of a clean sweep for Oxford & District in the county finals, with Hall featuring in three of the successes.

Nick Welsh, Oxfordshire's new outdoor international triallist, and partner Nathan Lewis overcame Howard Watts and Chris Allen 21-15 in an excellent pairs final at Oxford & District .

In the triples final at Oxford & District, home bowlers Watts, Hall and Allen brushed aside Banbury's Will Campion, Keith Holloway and Mark Sykes 17-6.

Watts, Hall, Allen were joined by Eddie Pilgrim as they took victory on their own mat in the fours final, beating a Carterton four, skipped by Chris Weedon, 24-14.

A six and a five midway through the match proved crucial.

Banbury Cross's Calvin Carpenter bowed out 21-15 to Wellingborough's Paul Broderick in the singles at the Travelscope English National Championships in Notting- ham.

The pair were locked together at 15-15, but prolific title-winner Broderick staged a stunning late surge, stringing together four singles and a double without reply.
