Eddie Hutchinson made his long-awaited return to action as Oxford United Reserves slipped to a 1-0 defeat against Leyton Orient in the Pontin's Holidays Combination at Didcot Town last night.
The 25-year-old midfielder, who has been out since Christmas with a foot injury, looked strong during the first half of the East Division encounter before being substituted at the break.
United gave another run out to Southampton right back Craig Richards, and they also included centre half Samy-Oyame Owane, on trial from Millwall, and West Brom's Rob Elvins up front.
Elvins headed against a post, but Orient broke the deadlock in the 58th minute when Efe Echanomi's shot flew under Gareth Tucker.
United were awarded a penalty in the 87th minute after Billy Beechers was upended in the box, but Elvins's spot-kick was easily saved by keeper Mills-Taylor.
Oxford Utd Res: Tucker, Richards, Gonzalez, Mulvany, Mawene (Benjamin 68), Gunn, Meade (Spilman 74), Hutchinson (Clarke HT), Beechers, Elvins, Younie. Subs not used: C Weedon, Warrell.
