Oxford City Stars continue to strengthen ahead of this season’s South Division 1 campaign with a trio of new signings.

The English National League outfit have recruited forward Ben Ealey-Newman, defender Jason Ikin and netminder Shannon Long.

Ealey-Newman, 18, joins from Slough Jets and already has a stack of goals to his name in NIHL2.

Ikin, also 18, comes to Oxford from Bracknell Drones, while 21-year-old Long arrives from Wightlink Raiders to challenge Connor Ranby.

Stars head coach Simon Anderson believes all three can make an impact.

“I am sure Ben is ready for NIHL1,” he said.

“He had a few offers from teams in our league, is a strong kid, works the walls and corners well, has a tremendous release and I think he will thrive and develop playing for the Stars.

“He has scored a lot of points at the lower levels and he deserves the chance to show that he can do at this level. We are delighted he has chosen us to prove just that.”

He added: “Jason is someone I have been aware of for a little while now.

“He is a great kid, positionally very good, makes a decent first pass, is big for his age and he’s happy to throw his body around.

“We have been looking for the right guy to compete with Connor Ranby and believe Shannon’s that man.

“They’ll push one another throughout the season.”
