Oxfordshire Under 17s got their defence of the Royal London Cup off to an excellent start with a resounding six-wicket victory over Bedfordshire at Stonesfield.

The hosts made quick inroads after Beds had chosen to bat first, reducing them to 56-4.

After resistance from Todd Pitkin (40) and Kashi Ali (42), left-arm seamer Matt Brown came back to mop up the tail, finishing with excellent figures of 4-24 from 8.5 overs as Beds were bowled out for 151 in the 44th over.

Oxon would have been confident of chasing this target, but they lost both opener Harry Thomas and No 3 George Reid for golden ducks.

But Jordan Garrett looked in imperious form as he raced to 50 from 38 balls, before Harvey Eltham came in at No 6 to bludgeon a quickfire 54 not out to see Oxfordshire home in the 30th over.

Captain Tom Price’s unbeaten century couldn’t prevent Oxfordshire from slipping to a two-wicket defeat against Hampshire in the ECB Under 15 County Cup at Magdalen College School.

Price hit a superb 103 not out off 152 balls, with eight fours, in Oxon’s 220-3 from 50 overs in the Group A clash.

He shared an unbroken third-wicket stand of 109 with Charlie Miller, who made 44 not out from 51 balls.

However, Hampshire clai-med victory at 221-8 with 2.3 overs to spare. Liam Randall took 4-32 for Oxon.

Captain Reuben Barksfield (47) top-scored in Oxon’s 172-7 off 40 overs.

Tight spells from Ben Potter and David White turned the game Oxon’s way, before Caspar Mason (3-26) returned to polish the visitors off for 156.

Oxfordshire Under 10s’ remarkable 21-game unbeaten run came to an end with a six-run defeat by Devon in a friendly at St Edward’s School, Oxford.

Oxon slipped to 89-8 in reply to Devon’s 171-5 off 40 overs.

Captain Charlie Turner and Chris Batten shared a valiant ninth-wicket stand of 71 to spark victory hopes, but they fell just short.

Scores: Devon Under 10 171-5 (40 ovs, L Walker 50, H Southgate 39), Oxon 165 (39.3 ovs, C Turner 36).

Oscar Woodcock took a hattrick as Tiddington knocked Abingdon Vale out of the Ron Maudsley Under 13 Trophy in a thrilling game that went down to the wire.

Joe Elliott and Harrison Wells – each with an unbeaten 31 – and Woodcock (30) saw Tiddington to 121-2.

Luke Maslen (33 no) and Matt Bell (30no) led Vale’s reply and they looked well set with three runs needed off the last over and four wickets in hand.

However, a hat trick from Woodcock reversed the fortunes, and the last wicket fell to a run out to see Tiddington through to the quarter finals by just one run.

In another photo finish, Minster Lovell made 96-5 against Hook Norton with Dee Jarvis 30 (no) and Lewis Jones 27. Hook Norton were all out for 95.

Didcot had a comfortable win at home to Freeland.
