THREE second half tries saw Oxford RL storm back to beat University of Gloucestershire All Golds 20-12 at Iffley Road and earn a third successive home win in Kingstone Press League 1.

Josh Scott, Aaron Jones-Bishop and Andy Matthews all crossed after the break as the Blues overturned a sixpoint deficit at half time.

A converted penalty try, the boot of Matt Bradley, as well as Jamie Murphy’s effort put the visitors into a 12-0 first half lead.

However, Andrew Hoggins reduced the deficit before half time and Oxford went onto secure a deserved win in the second period.

In a cagey opening period, the away side were awarded a penalty try on eight minutes, which Bradley converted in front of the posts.

All Golds extended their lead to eight points shortly after as Bradley slotted a penalty from 20 yards.

The visitors continued to press and Murphy went over on the right wing.

Bradley missed the conversion from the touchline.

Oxford came back strongly just before the break and, despite some resolute defending, centre Hoggins scored in the corner.

Nathan Kitson kicked the extras for 6-12.

The Blues emerged from half-time a different proposition but any chances of a third home win on the bounce looked in doubt when second row Adam Withington was yellow carded for a high tackle.

However, it was Oxford who got the vital next score when Scott scrambled over after a powerful run.

Kitson made no mistake with the conversion to draw the sides level.

Heading into the crucial final quarter, All Golds full back Joe Martin suffered a serious ankle injury and after a lengthy stoppage, Oxford took a deserved lead.

On 65 minutes, Jones-Bishop found himself in space out wide and the winger crossed in the corner for an unconverted try to give the hosts a four-point cushion.

The games crucial score came on 72 minutes after an All Golds attack broke down on the half way line.

Oxford moved down the left wing and debutant Andy Matthews combined with Marcus Brooker to run through and score under the posts.

Kitson missed the conversion, but the home side saw the game out.

Oxford are next in action on Sunday when they welcome bottom side South Wales Scorpions to Iffley Road.

Scorpions are yet to pick up a point this season, while the Blues search for a fourth home win in a row.
