Oxfordshire's Mike Keevil and David Wiggins won the pairs competition at the English Short Mat Association National Championships at Kettering.

Keevil and Wiggins's triumph saw Oxfordshire retain the trophy following Matt Smith and Trevor Brown's success last year.

Wallingford bowler Keevil and Wootton ace Wiggins came from behind to beat a Cheshire pair 11-6 in the final.

Their opponents raced into a five-shot lead by the fourth end, but the Oxon duo rallied.

A two on the penultimate end put Keevil and Wiggins three shots up, and with the jack being ditched in the last end, they were crowned champions.

They had earlier enjoyed a narrow success against West Midlands in the semi-finals after beating Essex 13-6 in their quarter-final.

Keevil and Wootton won eight games to take the title, beating Humberside and North Yorkshire in the first two knockout rounds after winning all three group matches against Gloucestershire, Northamptonshire and Hampshire.
