Banbury United stretched their unbeaten run to six British Gas Business Southern League Premier Division games last night with a 1-0 victory against basement boys Corby Town last night.
Bottom club Corby played better than when Banbury had visited them a week ago, and were enterprising going forward but lacked a killer touch.
Indeed, Wayne Bloosom had to clear off the line in the first 20 minutes.
The winning goal came on 65 minutes when Howard Forinton was pulled down in the area and Jon Gardner fired into the left corner for his 21st goal of the season.
Andy Baird also stabbed a shot against the post following a shot from Forinton in the first half.
Corby keeper Ian Pledger later made a string of fine saves to deny Banbury further goals.
Banbury Utd: Murrell, Bridges, Kinch, Sullivan, Blossom, Pond, Stanbridge, Redknap, Forinton (Foley 90), Baird, Gardner. Subs not used: Jackson, Nichols, Gooderick. Att: 217.
