BRITISH ace James Toseland tasted success and disappointment in the World Superbike Championships at Donington Park on Sunday.

The Sheffield-born racer cruised to victory in the first of the day's two races after Aussie Troy Bayliss crashed out early on when leading.

Bayliss came down at Coppice Corner, gifting the lead to Toseland who went on to take the chequered flag by a second and a half from Troy Corser, with Max Biaggi third and Noriyuki Haga fourth.

In the second race, Toseland nipped past fast starter Haga on the first lap but thoughts of a double win were soon shattered.

At the start of lap four, Toseland suffered mechanical problems with his Hanspree Ten Kate Honda, leaving Haga, Biaggi, and Corser to battle for honours.

Biaggi looked certain of victory until he ran wide on the last corner, allowing Haga through for a narrow win with Corser a close-up third.

Toseland leads the title race by five points from Biaggi with Haga next, 22 points behind.
