Oxford United Women’s manager Les Taylor hopes to bring an end to Aston Villa’s dominance over his side when they travel to Sutton Coldfield for tomorrow’s FA Women’s Super League 2 clash (5pm).
This will be the fifth time the two sides have met in the past year, with the Villains winning on all four previous occasions, including a 2-0 victory over United at Northcourt Road this season.
“Villa are a bit of a bogey side for us,” said Taylor.
“We’ve played them quite a few times over the past 18 months.
“I would say three times out of four we’ve been the better team, so we owe Villa one.”
Tomorrow’s match will be Oxford’s last for a month, while the league breaks due to the Women’s World Cup in Canada.
It also marks the halfway point of United’s campaign and Taylor wants to go into the break on a positive note.
He added: “Aston Villa are only two points ahead of us in the table, so if we can get a result there it just sets us up well for the break.
“We’ll go into the break with way more points than we had this time last year and hopefully a bit of momentum and belief in ourselves.”
