As a result, they already have more points than they picked up in the first half of last season.

Debutant Eric Caffryn and Steve Jenkins beat Rob Perry and Richard Lyons 7 & 5.

  • Jane Roberts won the scratch prize in qualifying and reached the semi-finals of the Oxfordshire Ladies Bronze Championship.

The 26-handicappper made the most of her home course, North Oxford, to edge out Studley Wood's Marianne Hawke on countback.

The top eight perfomers progressed to the knockout competition where Frilford Heath's Caroline Summers defeated defending champion Jennie Boyle (Chipping Norton) 3 & 2.

Studley Wood will host the semis and final on April 12 alongside the main county championship and Davies Trophy events.

  • Fay Banks claimed Frilford Heath's first ladies' 'major' of the season - the Andrew Walsh Trophy.

Banks, a 13-handicapper, edged out Annie Gowing (five) by one hole in the final, after finishing sixth in the qualifying round.

She beat club champion Jane Binning on the first extra hole in her semi-final, while Gowing pipped Sue Russell by two holes in her last four clash.

  • Chipping Norton's new men's and ladies captains Roly Stowe and Betty Lyall have driven in for their terms of office.

They have jointly chosen Katherine House Hospice as their designated charity.

Stowe's big day saw the President's team defeat the Captain's team in the taditional mixed match.

Guest of honour for Lyall was 96-year-old Blanche Kenyon, the first ladies' president at Chippy and also a past captain.
