Gold Cup hero Kauto Star may have grabbed the big headlines at the Cheltenham Festival, but it was also a meeting to remember for jockey Tom Doyle.

The rider, who lives at Stanford-in-the-Vale, notched his first Festival success when powering Oscar Park to victory in the Pertemps Final.

Doyle (pictured) kicked on the eight-year-old two furlongs from home in the three-mile handicap hurdle, and the 14-1 shot held on gamely to beat the one-eyed mare Material World by half a length.

"That's brilliant - there's no feeling like it," said Doyle. "It's what every jockey works for and wants to do.

"The race went really well - he travelled really sweetly. I was afraid that maybe I'd kicked on a little soon, but when the second horse got to me, he just kept picking up and picking up.

"If every horse had as big a heart it would be an easy game, that's for sure."

Oscar Park was also a first Festival winner for Compton trainer David Arbuthnot and owner George Ward.

Arbuthnot, who took over from Colin Tinkler at Ward's Uplands Stables earlier this year, was full of praise for Doyle.

"It was a very good ride," he said. "We discussed what we were going to do and Tom rode it to the letter."

Ward was elated by the victory.

"I've never had such joy," he said. "It's fantastic to win here. Doyle is a good jockey and I felt if the horse had it, he would have it.

"I'm so pleased for the horse because he had a terrible crashing fall at Haydock earlier this year, so it's lovely to see him win."

Away from the Festival, East Ilsley trainer Hughie Morrison sent out Tremelo Pointe to make a winning debut at Southwell.

The three-year-old filly, ridden by Steve Drowne, looked to have a bright future as she swept home by three and a half lengths from Cadwell in a mile maiden.

West Ilsley trainer Mick Channon was also among the winners at the Nottinghamshire track with Kew The Music.

Chris Catlin, who lives at Kingston Lisle, piloted the seven-year-old home by a length and a half fro
