Aussie Steve Johnston is more than glad to be back at what he calls his real 'home'.

The 36 year-old spent five years at Oxford, before a change in promotion saw him move on.

"This is my 16th year in British speedway, so to end up back here is great," he said.

"I never really wanted to move. It's ten years since I first signed for Oxford, so I am hoping to make this year a really good one."

Johnston, who score a fine paid ten points against Belle Vue, will again be backed by Ken Soanes of Oxford mini- cabs.

He added: "We have always got on well.

"As soon as I knew I would be back, I called him and we are back together again."

Johnston will be on a JAWA frame with a GM engine this year.

Johnston (pictured) is a regular on the Sky Sports commentary team and he made his seasonal screen debut at the match between Reading and Peterborough on Monday.

He added: "I really enjoy my TV work and have a few dates booked so far this season."

He can be counted as one of the better commentators on Sky and reveals his secrets.

"Speaking to a wide audience you need to keep it basic as most are not experienced enough with the bikes," he said.

"You have to make it easy for the public to understand and not try and confuse them with too much in-depth analysis."
