Ben Brown was the Carterton hero as his brace secured a 2-1 victory over Oxford Blackbirds in the OFA Under 13 Cup final at Ardley United on Sunday.

Playing on a sloping pitch in a blustery wind, Carterton struggled to get their passing going, although they slowly adapted to the conditions.

Their opponents played a defensive game, and it took until five minutes before half-time for Carterton to break the deadlock.

Brown burst through the Blackbirds' defence to blast home.

This lifted Carterton, and they almost added to their lead through Karl Russell.

Blackbirds hit back in the second half through a 30 yard piledriver from Asha Townsend-Owens, that left Carterton keeper Ben Groves with no chance.

Blackbirds began to look more impressive, but Carterton's back three of Mattie Gardner, Jack Henry and Sean Godfrey stood firm.

And 15 minutes from time, Carterton snatched the winner.

Daniel Ford put Brown through on goal with a fine pass, and he held his nerve to fire home the winner.

The cup was lifted by Will Healey, as captain Josh Lock had to be taken to hospital for stitches in a facial injury.

Bampton Town ran riot as they cruised into the semi-finals of the OFA Under 15 Cup with an 8-1 victory over Bloxham.

Lloyd Hancock and Paul Dew both netted braces, with Sammy Hancock, Tom Boot, Simon LeGood and Karl Dickinson also on target.
