Bicester were pushed all the way for a 25-19 home victory over Drifters, which keeps them in the BB & O League Premier Division promotion hunt.

The hosts lost flankers Dan Spencer and Anthony Nightingale to the sin-bin near the end, but were still able to hold on.

Bicester winger Chad Ward and Drifters scrum half James Cotter traded penalties early on.

Immediately afterwards, Ward sprinted away from a ruck and his chip kick was gathered and touched down by fellow winger Anthony Lewis to make it 8-3.

Cotter reduced the deficit with a second penalty before Bicester hooker James Davies was driven over and Ward converted from the touchline.

Centre James Branscombe kicked a third penalty for Drifters before the break.

After another Ward penalty, Drifters made it 18-14 when prop Alan Clutterbuck plunged over.

An exciting finale saw Dan Spencer score and Ward convert for Bicester with Alex Rankin's try giving Drifters hope.

Abingdon played their best rugby of the season to defeat Broadmoor Staff 24-3 and should now avoid relegation.

Tries by Adam Pennell and Ronnie Booth (2) were all converted by Ian Thompson as Abingdon's pack quickly established superiorty in the set-piece.

The second half was more attritional, a penalty by Thompson being the only score.

Oxford gained revenge for an early season thrashing by easing past Stow-on-the-Wold 24-7.
