Gosford All Blacks 7, Wallingford 48

Wallingford sealed the BB&O Premier Division title after running in eight tries against a battling Gosford side at a very wet Stratfield Brake.

For the fourth consecutive match, a Wallingford player scored a hat-trick, but this time it was fly half Simon Yapp on his return debut.

Although Gosford never let their heads drop, they were well beaten by a side brimming with confidence, who should now go through the season without dropping a point.

The hosts showed good energy from the start, but fell behind after a sloppy lineout on nine minutes.

Wallingford snaffled the ball and prop Ed Jenkins was driven over with Yapp converting.

Winger Nick Risk, with hat-tricks in Wallingford's last three games, was next to go over on 15 minutes after a flowing move begin by centre Pete Lloyd's burst.

Gosford's forward pressure paid off with a try from captain Eugene Griffin after 27 minutes.

Griffin converted, and for a time Wallingford looked rattled.

Yapp helped them re-discover their momentum when he latched on to Derek Viljoen's pass and sprinted through a static defence to score and convert on 34 minutes.

Gosford, who saw hooker Chris Jones sin-binned for pulling back Lloyd, trailed 24-7 at the break after Viljoen picked up a loose ball to canter in on the right wing.

The Viljoen-Yapp combination clicked again on 44 minutes, allowing the later to break through and convert his own try.

Yapp completed his treble with a score on the left wing after some good recycling.

Gosford No 8 Rick Benito was yellow-carded after 53 minutes, but Wallingford couldn't manage another score until the closing stages.

In between the hosts maintained a good work rate, while visiting full back Henry Venners managed to knock on with the line at his mercy after hacking up the wing.

On 72 minutes, a change of direction created a massive overlap for Wallingford and flanker Pete Holton could stroll in for a try, which Yapp converted.

Try No 8 came on 74 minutes when Stuart Mount found fellow replacement Don Jenkins in space, and the Kiwi centre sprinted in.

Gosford's efforts almost gained them a late consolation score, but the final whistle signalled champagne celebrations for the jubilant visitors.
