Rover Oxford returned to the top of the South League Middlesex, Berks, Bucks & Oxon Regional table thanks to a 3-2 victory at Maidenhead, combined with a defeat for promotion rivals Aylesbury.

A Toby Langdon drag-flick broke the deadlock at Maidenhead for his fourth of the season.

Maidenhead levelled after the umpire gave the home team a controversial short corner that was duly converted.

However, Rover didn't panic and soon regained their lead thanks to a Dan Smyth strike.

Rich Beer failed to convert a penalty stroke and Maidenhead upped the tempo.

It needed some resolute defending to keep them out, with Matt Fisher and captain Dave Hewstone on top form.

Maidenhead's pressure eventually told when they converted another short corner, but from the restart, Smyth went through the majority of the home team to win the game in the dying moments.

Aylesbury's surprise 2-1 home defeat by British Airways means that Sonning have now leapfrogged them into second place.

A much-changed City of Oxford side were beaten 6-2 at home by Ramgarhia in Division 1.

They fell behind after 50 seconds and were two down in 15 minutes.

Paul Scragg pulled one back, but the visitors restored their two-goal lead.

And although teenager Chris Brougham converted a penalty flick for a second City goal, Ramgarhia netted again before half-time to make it 4-2.

The visitors then confirmed their superiority with two further goals after the break.

Ex-first team player Simon Harrison scored all four as City 2nd won 4-3 at Banbury 2nd.

Oxford University are looking over their shoulders near the foot of Premier Division 1.

They lost 7-2 to high-flying Aylesbury and are now just one place above second-from-bottom Ashford, who beat Lewes.
