Didcot Town's Division 1 South & West play-off hopes took a massive knock with a 3-2 defeat at Cheshum United on Saturday.

With four defeats and a draw in their last five league matches, Didcot could have squandered their chance of a top-five finish.

Once again they started slowly and were made to pay for it. Danny Burnell scored after taking control of a smart through-ball from Enoch Boateng to put the Generals one up.

It was only a short-lived lead, however, as Didcot equalised in the 12th minute.

Ray Spence was allowed to cross into the box, and Cedric Abraham inadvertently deflected the ball into his own net.

Didcot were in the box-seat and were desperately unlucky not to take a 17th-minute lead.

Spence once again created problems, and his chip over keeper Matt Niedzwiecki thudded onto the inside of a post, going along the goalline before being cleared.

Chesham took the lead in the 56th minute, Burnell netting at the second attempt after his first shot was blocked.

Didcot keeper Chris Webb was forced into making two smart saves from Burnell and James Gray, but could not prevent Boateng making it 3-1 in the 89th minute.

There was still time for Spence to notch his first for Didcot with a stunning strike deep into stoppage time, but it was no more than a consolation.
