There was no fairytale return for Wantage-based jockey Cathy Gannon as she made her comeback at Chelmsford City yesterday after being sidelined since November 2013.
The 33-year-old rider, who had been out of action with a persistent shoulder injury, was back on the racecourse aboard Rambo Will, a horse she had won twice before on, in a five-furlong handicap.
However, there was to be no dream return as the 16-1 outsider finished last of the seven runners with 5-4 favourite Flying Bear running out a one-length winner.
Gannon continues her comeback at Wolverhampton today when she rides Muscadelle for Eve Johnson Houghton’s Blewbury stables, near Didcot, in the 3.50.
