Struggling Banbury could not prevent Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division high-fliers Corby from collecting all-three points on Saturday.

And it was a more comfortable victory than the score-line might suggest, with Banbury's goal coming from the penalty spot with virtually the last kick of the game in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

Relegation-threatened Banbury nearly took the lead, when Nathaniel Lewars surged clear, but he shot over the bar.

Corby went ahead in the 39th minute, when Jamie Anton headed home from a corner taken by former Puritan Stephen Morley.

Five minutes into the second half, the visitors gifted Corby a second goal when a poor back-pass put keeper Leigh Bedwell in trouble, and Cleveland Taylor had the time to strike the ball home.

Banbury never gave up and in the fifth minute of injury time, Leam Howards was brought down, with Jacob Walcott converting the spot-kick.

Banbury Utd: Bedwell, Cray, Martin, Fishwick, Tappin, Ryan, Green (Walcott 89), Daffern (Browne 55), Howards, Lewars (Talabi 60), Abedellah. Sub not used: Weston.

Attendance: 606.

Banbury United's Premier Division match against Slough in October, which was abandoned after the referee was hit by a water bottle at half-time, will be replayed.

Slough, who were leading 2-1, have protested at the league's decision to make them replay 139 days after the original game. A 14-year-old was detained after the match.
