Banbury United manager Paul Davis believes his side can match up to any side in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division, despite their poor league position.

The Puritans are second from bottom and 11 points adrift of safety ahead of tomorrow’s trip to titlechasing Corby Town.

But Davis feels they are as good as anyone in the league and has called on his players to prove it.

“There’s no external pressure on them because no one expects them to get a result, but we put pressure on them internally because we know what they’re capable of,” he said.

“We expect them to have a go, because we know they’re good enough to compete against anyone.

“The reason we are where we are is because I have a group of players who are inconsistent. It’s not because they don’t have any quality.

“If you look at Corby, they don’t have any outstanding players, but they perform to a high level consistently.”

With ten matches remaining, Davis admitted his side need to find form quickly if they are to stand any chance of avoiding the drop.

He added: “We’ve got ten games left and we’ve got to be consistently good.

“If we perform to the levels we’re capable of we could win eight of them.”

Joel Meade misses out with a foot injury.
