The majority of Oxford United’s business on transfer deadline day was out of the club as three players moved on.

David Hunt agreed to leave by mutual consent, while the loans of Tareiq Holmes-Dennis and Wes Burns were ended early.

Hunt’s move was expected, with the experienced right back making just five appearances since Michael Appleton took over as head coach last summer.

The 32-year-old, who was out of contract this summer, has been on loan at Barnet, and is expected to sign for the Vanarama Conference leaders for the rest of the season.

Appleton said: “David Hunt has been an excellent servant for this club and deserves the chance to play first-team games elsewhere.”

Burns and Holmes-Dennis were both loaned to get games under their belts, so a likely lack of regular football in the remainder of the season prompted their recalls to Bristol City and Charlton Athletic respectively.

The signings of Alex MacDonald and Joe Skarz pushed the pair down the pecking order at United, and Burns was loaned out to Cheltenham Town.
