Banbury United boss Paul Davis has urged his players to seize their chance to move out of the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division relegation zone when they travel to fellow strugglers Dorchester Town tomorrow.

The Puritans are level on points with their hosts, who are winless in their last eight games, and Davis is optimistic about his side’s chances.

“Their form’s not too good, but we’re concerned only with what we’re doing,” he said.

“I’ve said to the players, ‘don’t let this opportunity pass you by’.

“Everyone had written us off when I first took over. We’d lost our first six games and no one gave us any chance of staying up. We’ve got to take it now.

“We’ve got to win, but it’s not win at all costs. If we lose we’re playing catch-up again.”

Davis has bolstered his squad with the signings of strikers Deqwon Ebanks and Nathaniel Lewars, as well as midfielder Ümit Eminoðlu, who made his debut from the bench in last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Frome Town.

While Lewars will have to wait for his debut appearance due to suspension, 19-year-old former Birmingham City youngster Ebanks could come into the squad.

Banbury are still without midfielder Declan Hartigan as he serves the second match of a three-game suspension.
