Henley Hawks' promotion hopes suffered a blow with a 13-10 defeat at Redruth, who remain in the picture themselves.

The visitors thought they had taken the lead when captain and hooker Liam Wordley powered over, but referee Steve Leyshon ruled Hawks had been offside.

Redruth opened the scoring after 20 minutes when scrum half Mark Richards sniped in following after good work from No 8 Mark Bright.

Michael Hook, older brother of Wales international James, converted and added a penalty six minutes later.

Henley rallied with flanker Matt Payne and No 8 Dave Archer leading the way, but fly hald Mitch Burton missed the penalty their pressure was able to win.

Hawks played into the wind after the break, but hit back with a penalty try on 50 minutes.

Richards played the ball illegally as Archer went for a pushover try and Burton converted.

A Hook drop goal, after Redruth won a scrum against the head, made it 13-7.

Henley battled hard and reduced the arrears with a Burton penalty.

But despite strong running from winger Dave Tibbott, they could not break through the Cornish defence.
