OXFORD United Reserves are still seeking their first Pontin's Holidays Combination win this season after going down 1-0 to Luton Town Reserves at Didcot Town's npower Loop Meadow Stadium last night.

A U's side, which mixed experience with new faces, created plenty of chances in the East Division clash.

But they were denied even a draw by the Hatters, for whom keeper Zac Barrett was in inspired form.

United had an experimental line-up at the back with three triallists, Jesper Fugesang, Anthony Catalone and Luke Foster joining Andrew Gunn.

Further forward there were more familiar faces, with Gregg Coombes, Andy Burgess, Josh Kennet and Gav Johnson in midfield, while Kris Grebis and Marvin Robinson started up front.

The hard-working Grebis had the bulk of United's chances in the first half, twice being denied by Barrett and later slicing an effort wide.

United fell behind on 27 minutes when Shaun Ross drifted past the two centre backs and headed a right-wing cross in at the far post.

Coombes fired a shot just over the bar early in the second half, but then had to go off after a blow to the head.

Grebis, Daniel Meade and Billy Beechers were all denied by Barrett as United were unable to force an equaliser.

Oxford Utd Res: Tucker, Gunn, Fugesang (Franklin HT), Kennet (Beechers 62), Foster, Catalone, Coombes (Meade 67), Burgess, Robinson, Grebis, Johnson. Subs not used: Anderson, Warrell.
