Clanfield player-manager Peter Osborne scored twice late on as his depleted side gave a battling performance against new Division 1 West leaders in a 4-2 defeat.

On a poor pitch, the reorganised visitors took time to settle and trailed at the interval to a Dean Mulden goal.

Defending the muddier goalmouth in the second half, Clanfield fell 4-0 behind to goals by Booker Woodford, Dean Barker and Jack Herd.

Coming on as substitute for the last 15 minutes, Osborne pulled a goal back with a shot from the edge of the box.

He then received a yellow card, when fouled, but had the last laugh by scoring from the resulting free kick.

Letcombe took the lead in the sixth minute. A right-wing cross from David Richardson was dummied by Richard Claydon at the near post, and Mark Rees side-footed home.

They went further in front on the half-hour, Sean Webb scoring from close range after the visiting keeper had spilled the ball.

The game was effectively over at the break as Easington captain Russell Wilkins was sent off on the stroke of half-time for a second yellow card. Letcombe did not capitalise, but the home defence were rarely troubled, with Chris Benson in commanding form.

Iain Whatley added a third from 20 yards with six minutes left.

Hook Norton debutant Sammy Ibrahim was sent off for twice being booked after coming on as substitute in an otherwise uneventful goalless draw against Pewsey Vale.
