Anaclet Odhiambo scored a hat-trick as Abingdon United nearly threw away a three-goal interval lead against Division 1 South & West's bottom club on Saturday in a 4-2 victory.

After 25 minutes Rowlands was left unmarked in the United area and the ball was laid square to him but his shot was too weak and Simon Tricker had an easy take.Soon after, a corner found Jermaine Ferreira and as he whipped the ball in Nathan Woodley connected to hit a dipping shot that just went over the bar. Soon after Town's Baverstock curled a ball just past the angle of post and bar.

The visitors got their nose in front after 30 minutes.

From James Organ's corner, Nathan Woodley stepped over the ball and Richard Peirson's shot hit a defender and went across the goal to Andy Ballard, who tapped in.

Abingdon then scored twice in the space of five minutes before the break.

The first came as Peirson headed the ball back into the danger area from Organ's whipped-in cross.

Three Abingdon forwards got behind the defence, and Odhiambo side-footed home from a couple of yards.

The Hanwell goal had a lucky escape when their keeper, Armand, dropped a dipping shot from Micheas Herbert, but officials ruled that the ball had not crossed the line.

This just delayed the inevitable, as a minute later, Odhiambo lobbed superbly over the keeper from the edge of the area to make it 3-0.

From the start of the next 45 minutes, Hanwell looked a different team as they surged forward and had chance after chance.

After Baverstock was denied by Simon Tricker, the unmarked Harper pulled back a goal with a fierce shot at the far post.

The game went from end to end. After Peirson was denied by Armand, Hanwell made it 3-2 ten minutes from time with a scrambled goal from Joseph.

This set up a tense last few minutes with Hanwell throwing every one forward.

Desperate defending and the base of a post came to anxious Abingdon's rescue before Odhiambo completed his hat-trick, by tapping in after Ryan Brooks's shot had been brilliantly saved.
