Oxfordshire's Claire Lasko, from Thame, and Stanton St John's Imogen Stanley were celebrating after being part of the six-strong Great Britain team that won gold at the fourth Australian Youth Olympic Festival in Sydney.

Lasko, a pupil at Lord Williams's in Thame and Stanley, who attends Rye St Antony in Headington, turn out regularly for the Oxford Sailing Club.

The 16-year-olds took gold after winning the race-off finals against Australia.

It followed the gold medal they won at the Youth Team Racing Championships in 2006.

In 2003 they struck bronze at the Grand Optical European Club Team Racing Championships and a year later, won two gold medals, winning both the Junior Team Racing and European Club Team Racing championships.

A delighted Lasko said: "We didn't think we could win it, but we didn't give up.

"We kept saying to ourselves, it's not over until it's over."
