More big roach are being caught from Oxfordshire waters, writes ANDY WEBBER.

Following on from Alan Storey's four-pounder last week, this time Didcot big-fish expert Simon Marshall has been among the redfins.

Using feeder tactics cast about 30 yards out, he netted fish weighing 3.1.0, 3.4.0 and 3.10.0, plus another three decent roach, which included a brace of 2lb fish.

He was using a quivertip rod with 6lb mainline, a black cap feeder, 0.13mm hook length and a size 16 hook. Successful bait was double maggot.

Another angler who has been bagging up with some big roach is Mark Smith from Woking, who has been targetting an Oxfordshire stillwater.

Mark cast a maggot-feeder to some rolling fish he saw close to an island, banking roach of 3.8.0, 3.4.0, 3.00, 2.15.0 and 2.14.0.

He added a further 19 two-pounders over a three-day session.

Linch Hill's Willow Lake has also been doing the business for Tom Stone, who had a 3.7.0 roach on maggot cast to a gravel bar. He fed his swim with hemp and pellet.

In the past, a 2lb roach was considered the fish of a lifetime. Now, I suppose, we have to raise the bar to 3lb!
