OXFORDSHIRE reached the National Under 20 Championship Shield semi-finals after a 17-0 victory over Staffordshire at Chipping Norton.

Martin Moran’s side produced a strong, controlled display in windy conditions on a heavy pitch and will now face either Surrey, Middlesex or Durham in the last four.

With the wind behind them, Oxon took the lead when centre Will Millett slotted a 12th-minute penalty.

Hooker Sam Rawsthorne dived over for the hosts’ opening try, which Millett converted.

Oxon, however, were conceding too many penalties, with one resulting in a sin-binning for Ryan Biscoe.

Staffordshire began the second half strongly, but fell further behind when prop Anthony Kent went over for Millett to convert.

Oxon held on well in defence and the visitors’ frustration led to them having a man sent off.

Moran said: “The most pleasing aspect of the game was that Oxfordshire again kept a clean sheet.”
