Esporta Oxford suffered another defeat in the National League as they went down 4-1 to reigning champions Duffield (Derby).
However, the scoreline wasn't a fair reflection of the match.
Cameron Pilley, the Esporta No 1 and world No 22, stunned the 120-strong home crowd into silence by taking a 2-0 lead against British No 1 and world No 5 Nick Matthew.
But the local favourite turned the game around to take victory 3-2.
The three other men's matches also went to the fifth game.
Scott Handley and Kristen Johnson both went down 3-2 against higher-ranked opponents as well, but Chris Ryder, on his seasonal debut, played superbly to beat Lee Drew 3-2.
With Madeleine Perry unavailable, Deon Saffrey came into the Esporta side. But despite some good winners, she found world No 5 Tanya Bailey too strong.
