Didcot angler Matt Micallef, who works at Acorn Angling, is on cloud nine after being declared the new national chub record holder, writes ANDY WEBBER.
Matt has been on tenterhooks for the last two months after catching a 9lb 2oz record fish from a tributory of the Thames.
The fish has now been accepted by the British Record Fish Committee.
The decision has not gone down too well with some anglers, however. Specimen hunter Phil Smith, from Coventry, and March Pratley, who runs the Orchid Lake fishery at Dorchester, have both resigned from the committee, as they felt they did not follow the correct procedures in dealing with the claim.
