John Mills scored the winner as Didcot Town moved off the foot of Calor League Division 1 South & West with a narrow 1-0 victory at the Draycott Engineering Loop Meadow Stadium on Saturday.

His second-half goal earned the hosts record only their second victory of the season.

The win saw the Railwaymen leapfrog Fleet up to 20th place.

Didcot started slowly with keeper Kieran Beesley making a smart save from Phillip Moore at his near post.

But they responded well with Jack Longford forcing Fleet keeper Ryan Price into a scrambling block, while new signing Kameron Abbassi headed just wide.

Pablo Haysham set up Mills, whose shot hit the sidenetting.

After the break, Mills forced Price into a sprawling block as Didcot continued in the ascendancy.

And there was little suprise when they went ahead.

Abbassi’s pass put Mills clear on goal and he rounded Price before stroking the ball into an empty net.

Price then kept his side in it as Mills twice more, Longford, Jemaine Ferreira and sub Matt Blenford all failed to beat him.

Fleet started to create chances of their own, with Beesley clawing Jordan Carter’s deflected drive as it spun towards the opposite corner.
