CAMBRIDGE coach Tony Rogers hailed his players' superb defence after they won their second successive Varsity Match.
Rogers said: "I think we hoped to have a little more ball, but the defence was just fantastic.
"To see someone like Joe Ansbro put in so many tackles was excellent."
About Joe Roff, he added: "We didn't play the game around one man. It's about the whole 15.
"But I was delighted with the way we kept him out of the game."
Cambridge had to make a late change after winger David Akinluyi, a professional with Northampton, was ruled ineligible to play.
But skipper John Blaikie said. "I think it made us tighter as a unit.
"Having to change things around at that stage was difficult, particularly for Dave, but it drew us closer as a squad.
Light Blue prop Jon Dawson had an outstanding game in the scrum, but heaped priase elsewhere.
He said: "I think the centres played Joe Roff very well for most of the game and that really helped us."
