JOE Roberts, of Brize Norton, just missed out on achieving a double gold medal at the Under 17 Silver Tournament held in Warwick.
In the singles, Roberts reached the final, without dropping a set. and then beat Yorkshire’s Elliott Robertson 15-12, 8-15, 15-11.
Roberts then teamed up with regular partner, Ashley Garri-son, of Witney, in the doubles.
The boys, both students at Witney’s Henry Box School, lost 15-13, 15-13 in the final to Jonty Russ, of Sussex, and Edward Thorpe, of Notts.
In the Hertfordshire Under 15 Bronze Tournament, Louise Atkins, of Drayton, won her singles group games and quarter- final before losing 21-15 in the semi to eventual winner Lydia Ip, from Surrey.
Atkins and Hertfordshire’s April Miller won their doubles group and took gold with a 21-19 win against Ip and Gemma Atkins.
This follows good results in the previous week’s Nottingham-shire Under 15 Gold Tournament in which Atkins reached the quarter-final of the singles and last 16 of the doubles.
Safia Khimji, of Abingdon, took two medals at the Essex Under 13 Gold Tournament.
She won a silver in the singles’ final and a bronze in girls’ doubles with her partner Mia Hillsden, of Essex.
