It was a great day on the river in Oxford on Saturday as crowds lined Donnington Bridge and the towpaths along the 1,850-metre course for the Isis Sculls, writes Mike Rosewell.
City of Oxford were not quite the perfect hosts since the club won a remarkable 23 divisions on their home water – 12 coming from junior members. The bulk of the others came for their women.
Falcon notched up 11 wins, ranging from veteran women to under 14 youngsters.
The Dragon School, Oxford, notched up four wins, while Oxford Academicals recorded a hat-trick.
Action moves further downstream for the Wallingford Sculls this Saturday.
With an entry drawn from a larger base, more than 400 boats will be racing in three divisions at 10.30am, 1pm and 3.30pm. The first and third divisions will be raced over 4,250 metres and the second division – for the youngest scullers – over 1,500 metres.
