BANBURY Borough's Mark Sykes ended the season as he started it by adding the Oxfordshire Champions of Champions title to the county’s two wood singles crown he won in May.

Sykes, who won the competition in 2008 and 2010, beat Watlington’s Gordon Hooker 21-10 in the final at Oxford City & County.

After losing the first four ends, Sykes picked up two fours in the next three ends to move into a 9-6 lead.

Hooker closed within a shot with a couple of singles, but the Banbury man took four of the next five ends to open up a 14-10 lead.

Sykes showed his class over the next five ends with some excellent bowls when under pressure to storm home.

In the semi-finals, Sykes overcame Bloxham’s Ray Hopkins 21-11, collecting nine unanswered shots over the last four ends, while Hooker came out on top 21-18 against Carterton’s Bob Turley in a 22-end thriller.
