ALAN Green plundered five goals in a man-of-the-match display as Oxford City Stars continued their superb start to the season with a 9-3 win at Peterborough Islanders.

The crushing victory made it threes wins out of three for the Stars, who preserved their two-point lead in English National League South Division 2.

Recent clashes between the two sides had been very physical, so there was no surprise when both teams took penalties early on, with Green sent to the sin-bin for slashing.

There was little to choose between the two sides until the Islanders conceded a soft opener, as Mike Whillock’s shot was not collected cleanly by the netminder and trickled over the line.

The hosts quickly levelled when Stars goalie James Skaife made a good save but could not keep out the rebound, tucked away by Steven Maile.

Peterborough had the momentum, but Stars edged in front through Josh Florey.

Green struck twice in quick succession as the visitors made a flying start to the second period.

The Islanders pulled one back and were controversially awarded a penalty shot, but after a long delay, Skaife pulled off a save.

Stars never looked back and finished the period 5-2 up when Whillock scored his second of the game.

They went on to dominate the third period, with skipper Nick Oliver extending the lead before Green added three more goals.

Islanders notched a third, but the damage had already been done.
