Oxford United will not be contesting Andy Whing’s red card after previous appeals were not upheld by the Football Association.

The midfielder was sent off for a late tackle in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Chesterfield at the Kassam Stadium.

United have the option of appealing referee Trevor Kettle’s decision, with the chance of overturning the three-match suspension.

But although manager Chris Wilder felt it was incorrect, there will be no move to challenge it.

It comes after an appeal against James Constable’s red card against AFC Wimbledon last December, where the U’s felt they had a very strong case, was rejected.

Wilder said: “We are not frivolous with our appeals.

“We appealed Beano’s last year and thought we had an absolute stonewall case and got turned down.

“I have made three appeals and it is absolutely farcical what the assessor comes back with.

“I spoke to Trevor and he is an experienced referee. I felt he got the decision wrong.

“But there won’t be an appeal.”
