EDDIE Pepperell will have one eye on extending his season when teeing off in Scotland at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship on Thursday.

Oxfordshire’s No 1 may only have two events left this season, but a strong finish could still see him move into the top 60 on the European Tour’s money list.

The 22-year-old from Abingdon sits 80th as it stands, more than £80,000 adrift of the elite group, who qualify for the lucrative end of season tournament in Dubai.

But Pepperell, who went to see putting guru Paul Hurrion last week, has not given up and intends to finish his rookie campaign with a flourish.

He said: “The end of the season is in sight. I think it’s important I recognise that and put a bit more emphasis on the next two weeks.

“There are opportunities ahead for me if I was to go and play really well.

“It would open some doors which are worth opening up, so I’m going to try.”

With a prize fund of more than £3m, the Dunhill Links, is held over Carnoustie, Kingsbarns and St Andrews, offers big rewards.

The Abingdon golfer’s biggest winnings this season have both come on home soil and he is hoping for more.

He said: “It’s the second biggest purse available to me on the European Tour this year.

“My two biggest earnings have come in the UK and it should suit British guys with the way the courses are.

“I have to prepare well and my game’s got to be in good shape, which I feel it is.”
