Banbury Utd 1, Mangotsfield Utd 2

INJURIES to Andy Baird and Howard Forinton, suffered against Yate in midweek, meant that Banbury were without their lethal strike force for the Premier Division visit of Mangotsfield on Saturday.

In a goalless first half, Mangotsfield went closest when new signing David Seal hit a post with a snap-shot, which keeper Alan Judge looked to have covered.

Banbury played well in midfield and their approach work looked good, but without their main strikers, the makeshift duo of Wayne Blossom and Jon Gardner, always looked short of ideas.

The home defence, bolstered by the return of Kieran Sullivan, coped well until the 72nd minute when Seal nipped in front of Ady Fuller to head home at the far post.

Ninety seconds later, a searching cross caught out Judge, and Seal was on hand to tap the ball home following a rebound off the bar.

Banbury never gave up, and in the 84th minute, Matt Hayward headed home. but Mangotsfield held on.

Banbury Utd: Judge, Bridges, Kinch, Sullivan, Hayward, Fuller (Lazarus 83), Stanbridge, Redknap, Blossom, Pond, Gardner. Subs not used: Jackson, Szczukiewicz.

Attendance: 318.
