Wallingford RC demonstrated they were golden oldies with a clutch of medals at the World Masters Regatta at Varese in Italy.

Sean Morris and Colin Cusack risked problems with excess baggage on their trip home, thanks to an incredible haul of 15 gold medals between them.

In the men’s pairs category they triumphed at both F (average crew age 60 and over) and G (65 and over).

Morris also won the H (70) men’s pair title with Duncan Spencer from the USA. Morris and Cusack teamed up with fellow Wallingfordians Pieter van Vrede, Michael Drury and Johanna van Vrede to win the F men’s coxed four.

The busy Morris and Cusack joined up with Tom Bishop (Quintin RC) and Bill Chambers, from Switzerland, to take the F men’s coxless four.

Not content with that, they partnered Tom Bishop and Charles Parry to win G men’s quad sculls, coxless fours and coxed fours, again with Johanna van Vrede in the cox’s seat.

Wallingford’s veteran ladies recorded a hard-fought third place by Becky Waller and Sally Axon in the B (average crew age over 36) women’s pair.

They finished off with a storming second place in the extremely competitive D (50 & over) mixed eight category.
