A DRAMATIC late penalty by Ryan Curtin rescued Abingdon United in a fluctuating Division 1 South & West game at Northcourt Road on Saturday.

The highlight of a goalless first half came when Jermaine McSporran saw his sweelty-hit shot hacked off the line by Windsor defender Ricci Dolan.

Two minutes after the break, McSporran was denied again by a late clearance.

The striker eventually got his reward, getting the final touch after good work by Andy Ballard and Anaclet Odhiambo.

Abingdon keeper Simon Tricker made two good blocks before, in the 73rd minute, a cross was met by the unmarked Michael Chennels, who equalised for Windsor.

The visitors thought they had snatched victory when Chennels smashed home his second in the last minute.

But Abingdon forced a free kick on the right of the area. The ball was hammered into a melee of players, resulting in Micheas Herbert in putting the ball away.

However, referee John Busby had already blown for a handball and awarded a penalty.

Curtin remained calm to hit the spot-kick into the bottom corner with about five seconds left on the watch.

Abingdon Utd: Tricker, Moss, Organ, Ballard, Woodley, McCalmon, Herbert, Curtin, Ferreira, McSporran, Odhiambo, (Simms 78). Subs not used: Davis, Zappi, Peirson.
