DIDCOT'S play-off hopes in Division 1 South & West suffered a setback when they conceded two late goals and had to settle for a point in a 2-2 draw at Bracknell on Saturday.

With 15 minutes left, Didcot led 2-0, but they could not hang on as the home side stormed back to set up an exciting finish.

The first half on the heavy surface was a quiet affair with just two chances of note.

Bracknell almost took the lead from a corner, but Jamie Heapy managed to hook the ball off the goalline.

Then Didcot's Jamie Brooks fired high and wide from just outside the box.

The second half was far more exciting, and the visitors took the lead on 49 minutes.

Paul Powell and Heapy combined to set up Jack King, who supplied a clinical finish with a shot over Robins' keeper Paul McCarthy from the edge of the penalty area.

Didcot looked to have sealed all three points when they doubled the lead seven minutes later.

Stuart Beavon raced onto a long goal-kick from Chris Webb and thumped home a stunning volley past McCarthy.

Beavon limped out of the action midway through the half, and Bracknell turned things around within the space of just five minutes.

Ben Edwards supplied the cross for Garry Sargeant to score in the 78th minute.

Bracknell missed two further chances before Sargeant drew his side level with a terrific shot past Webb into the far corner of the net.

Despite these set-backs, it was Didcot who came closest to snatching all three points .

Brooks missed a clear-chance when he screwed his shot wide from 12 yards and then a minute later McCarthy pulled off a great save to deny Andy Parrott.

And with almost the last kick of the game, Powell thumped a post after Parrott had flicked on a Gary Wickens's long thow-in.

Didcot: Webb, Goodall (Weatherstone 65), Jack, Bedwell, Gunn, Parrott, Brooks, King, Heapy, Beavon (Wickens 64), Powell.
