North Leigh manager Mark Gee has heralded the capture of defender Andy Gunn.

Last season, Gunn was part of the Oxford City side that finished tenth in Conference North, but was released last week as he was no longer part of their plans.

And Gee had no hesitation in snapping him up for his side’s Division 1 South & West campaign.

Although Gunn’s duties as a community policeman rule him out of tomorrow’s trip to new boys Stratford Town, Gee is delighted to have the former Didcot Town stopper on board.

“He did very well for City last season and has played consistently at a high level,” said Gee.

“He has wealth of experience and has a desire to win.

“Andy will be a good addition to the squad.”

Meanwhile, Gee is looking for his side to respond after their 2-1 midweek defeat at Fleet Town where they fought back from a goal down only to lose to a deflected shot.

“In the first 15 minutes, we opened them up at will and had a couple of chances, but we didn’t put them away and Fleet gained in confidence," he said.

“They went 1-0 up, but we came at them in the second half and Jacob Walcott scored a penalty early on.

“We got in behind them, but didn’t create any clear-cut chances.

“Then the ball hit Wayne Turk’s knee before flying past the keeper.

“We then hit a post at the end, but it’s a game we felt we should have got a (good) result from, but maybe it’s an early warning to us.”

Striker Aaron Woodley is added to a squad missing Michael Alexis, who damaged a hamstring at Fleet.

Didcot Town host Cinderford Town, while Banbury United travel to St Albans City in the Premier Division.
