A Banbury Borough team went down 20-19 to a Suffolk side in the National Fours Championship second round at Worthing.

Mark Sykes’s side of Geoff Gray, George Moon and Greg Moon were pipped by Felixstowe and Suffolk’s John Rednall, Mark Addison, Clive Webb and Adrian Holden.

They had edged past Northampton West End’s John Baggat, Martin Walker, Alan Ashby and Jamie Walker 19-17 in round one, where Headington’s Dean May, Remy Clanfield, Gary May and Shaun Claridge were beaten 18-15 by Derby West End’s Alex Gough, Sean Langham, Ashley Fradgley and Robert Gough.

Hagbourne’s John Beardsley, Ronnie Moore, John Heapy and Paul Ryman fell at the first hurdle to a Norfolk side.

Representing Berkshire they went down 26-18 to Justin Hudson, Simon Peach, Mervyn Chapman and Ian Whiley (Wootton Park).

Hagbourne’s David Hancock reached the third round of the Junior Singles Championship before going out 21-19 to Matt Coppen (Royston, Hertfordshire).

He had defeated Norfolk’s Jake Wilgress 21-14 in the second round after beating Jack Fisher (Cowley, Middlesex) 21-11 in his opener.

Carterton’s Dan Wakeman went out 21-14 in round two to Ashford Town’s Shaun Woolford.

He had thrashed Leigh Allen (Atherley, Hampshire) 21-7 in the first round where Banbury Central’s George Schwab crashed out 21-10 to Lewis Wing (Milton Regis, Kent).
